There were many reasons for African Americans to demand their civil rights;

The irony of all of this is African Americans fought barely in World War 1 and World War 2 to insure Europe freedom and safety yet they were denied these basic human/civil rights at home.
1945 Branch Rickey the general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers discovered a plan for an African American named Jackie Robinson, to challenge the rule in major league baseball which was to require African American to play in a separate Negro league. Despite many incidents of prejudice, Robinson behaved with courage and had a wonderful first season, he was awarded rookie of the year and in 1949 he was voted leagues most valuable player paving the way and influencing other African Americans.
Segregation leads to many incidents which caused businesses to be sued. Brown vs. board of education was a case where schools were sued, once a man named Oliver Brown disliked the fact that his 8 year old daughter could not attend the nearby school because it was a white’s only school. The court did not agree with him trying to solve his case because they believed desegregation would lead to violence and chaos in several states. Delgado vs. Bastrop ISD was another incident where a public school was sued because of segregation with there children not going to a school that there parents wanted them to go to. These incidents advanced civil rights and were tokens of the gains they needed but African Americans remained with poverty and discrimination.
